The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) transformed Manhattan’s Cathedral of St. John the Divine into a striking celebration of fashion and philanthropy for its annual gala, honoring Richard Dickson, president and CEO of Gap Inc.. Anchored by the theme Threads of Impact, the evening raised nearly $1.9 million in support of scholarships and future programming for FIT students.

For co-chair Missy Pool, the night carried both personal and professional meaning. “I felt a profound sense of responsibility to ensure that this year’s gala was an unforgettable success,” she shared, with a focus on honoring Dickson’s legacy while “setting the tone for the future and supporting the next generation of FIT.”

Hosted by Ciara and featuring a performance by Aloe Blacc, the evening unfolded with awards-style tributes and a major announcement: the Doris Fisher Creators Program, a mentorship initiative connecting FIT students with leaders at Gap Inc. Throughout the cathedral, thoughtful details reinforced the theme—including table settings adorned with denim flowers by Andrew Werner of FLEUR’D PINS, a subtle but effortlessly chic nod to American style.

The guest list reflected the breadth of the industry, with attendees including Karlie Kloss, Iman, Calvin Klein, Nina Garcia, LaQuan Smith, and Russell Wilson, among others spanning fashion, media, and entertainment.

“The theme is about bringing like-minded individuals together to make a significant impact,” Pool said—a vision brought to life through immersive moments like a custom installation by Zac Posen and live fashion sketches created by FIT Illustration students throughout the night.

After eight months of planning alongside co-chair Gabriella Khalil and partners at Gap Inc., the result was a night that felt both polished and purposeful. “We wanted to create an energetic and memorable experience that reminds everyone of the purpose behind our gathering,” Pool added.

At its core, that purpose remains clear: “Our mission is crucial as we nurture future creative talent,” she said. “We’re committed to developing top-tier talent that any brand would be privileged to have.” As the evening closed with a lively after party, Pool left guests with a lasting sentiment: “Creativity and giving back have the power to unite us for the greater good.”
