This may be my favorite Spotlight theme yet: powerful female entrepreneurs. As an business owner myself, I have so much respect for women who forge their own path. I know how hard it is, and I know how much sacrifice there can be. The one thing you shouldn’t have to sacrifice, however, is your dating life. You might be head-down tunnel vision on creating your empire, so I’ve got your back when it comes to setting yourself up for success in the dating world. Here are four ways to market yourself.
- Start the conversation with ease. You’re not afraid to talk to people when it comes to work, so there should be no fear in starting a conversation with a potential love interest. Don’t be afraid to be the one to initiate, but then give him space afterward to come to you. Once you’ve made it clear you’d like to go out, it’s important to let him take the lead. I recommend starting conversations with a question—and an interesting one. Ask “Best lobster roll in the Hamptons?” instead of “How was your day?” You want to stand out, and you definitely don’t want to come off as boring.
- Make sure your dating profile is up to par. The way you present yourself online is meant to showcase a little bit of your personality, your looks (of course), and some background of who you are. The ideal combination is at least two photos of just you, a family photo, a friends photo, and definitely one of you smiling. When it comes to prompts and what you write on your profile, keep it lighthearted while still revealing some clues to who you are and what your vibe is.
- Body language is key. If you’re a powerful female entrepreneur, chances are that you’re intimidating. Your body language can put someone at ease and make you seem more approachable. Don’t rush your words. Don’t be afraid to smile. Try not to have your phone in your hand. Eye contact is so important.
- Remember who the F you are. This is the most important point I’m going to make here. You are the prize. You aren’t just bringing things to the table; you are the table. Make sure your mindset is not “Does he like me,” and instead it’s “Do I like him? Do I enjoy his company? Does he bring out a good side of me?” If your interactions with people you’re interested in don’t lead to a date, then it’s your protection from something that wouldn’t have been right for you. The right man will rise to the challenge of dating a powerful woman, not shy away from it.
