In early September of 2023, Egypt-based brand Okhtein announced its first-ever fine jewelry line. For the past 10 years, Okhetin has earned major media attention for its handbags, sunglasses, small leather goods, and, now, jewelry.
Creative Directors, co-founders, and sisters Aya and Mounaz Abdelraouf work with local artisans in Egypt to create all of their pieces—and this jewelry collection was no exception. The sister duo learned jewelry craftsmanship from Egyptian artisans and were able to create a collection that speaks to the importance of sisterhood.
The sister duo says that this jewelry launch is a transition from “brass to gold.” Their experience with metals made creating a jewelry line organic. In a recent interview with Vogue Arabia, the two even stated that designing the hardware for their handbags has always been the first step of their design process.
This sisterhood-inspired collection is a blend of both Aya and Mounaz’s design aesthetics. Aya has an eye for embellishments while Mounaz is a more minimalistic designer. The line is an extension of handbag designs their iconic handbag designs.
The entire jewelry line is made from 18-karat gold and embellished with some of the world’s finest stones such as diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and emeralds. Each piece of the collection can be worn together, symbolizing the bond between sisters.
Okhtein’s jewelry line includes everything from bracelets to rings to necklaces and earrings. The “Sister Charm” is the star of this collection. You and your sister or best friend are able to select and customize which charm you would like to put on your bracelet, creating the perfect matching moment.
The collection is available at Okhtein’s Garden 8 store in Cairo, Egypt, and will be available worldwide at the end of October.
It is not only the 18-karat gold or precious stones used to create this line, it is Ava and Mounaz’s love for local artisans—and each other—that breathes life into this collection. It is more than jewelry it is about the importance of family and womanhood.
