It’s almost 2025, so why not let go of those old worries and embrace some new possibilities? Here’s a bit of advice to set you on the right path!

As 2024 comes to a close we are offered an opportunity to step back and take stock. Once a year we’re given a brief moment “in between”—that time when we’re suspended between the past and the future—to assess what worked, what didn’t, and what’s worth carrying forward from the year before. It’s not about closing the door on the past, but rather using it as a reference point for what’s ahead. With each new year comes the chance to adjust priorities, set fresh goals, and to continue building on the foundation laid over the past 12 months. This moment serves as a subtle prompt to reflect, regroup, and move forward with purpose. In the spirit of renewal, here are a few insights of my own from my experiences this past year.
Take Care of Your Mind and Body
Over the past year, I’ve come to realize more than ever just how interconnected the two are. As I get older, I feel the effects of stress in ways I didn’t before. When I’m stressed, it doesn’t just live in my head. It shows up physically, too. I feel it in the tightness in my neck, the heaviness in my shoulders, and the aches in my back.
On the flip side, when I take care of my body, I find that my mind is clearer, more focused, and more resilient. The connection is undeniable. A healthy body supports a healthy mind, and a healthy mind, in turn, supports a healthy body. So, this year, I’ve made a conscious effort to prioritize both. Whether it’s committing to a regular exercise routine, spending time outdoors, or making the time for a breathing practice, I’m reminded that my overall well-being is the foundation for everything else in my life. It’s not just about physical fitness; it’s about nurturing my mental health as well.
Nurture Your Personal Relationships
It’s easy to get caught up in the demands of work, family, and life, and sometimes we forget to make time for the people who matter most. I’ve found that when I make the effort to connect with others, whether it’s by calling a friend I haven’t spoken to in a while or planning quality time with family, the return is immeasurable. In the past, I’ve fallen into the trap of trying to “kill two birds with one stone,” grouping social time into work events.
As someone who hosts and attends many events for my job, I used to check the box of seeing friends simply by catching up with them at these events. But lately, I’ve noticed that this approach doesn’t fulfill me the way it used to. I’m craving authentic, one-on-one time with friends where I can truly be myself, without the pressure of being pulled in multiple directions or being distracted by other responsibilities. So, when I find myself slipping into old patterns, I remember to ask myself: Are the people I love getting the best of me or the rest of me?
Forgive Yourself and Others
Nothing weighs me down more than regret or holding a grudge, so this year, I’m making a conscious effort to let it all go. Yes, it’s hard sometimes to swallow your pride or set aside your emotions, but forgiveness is one of the quickest ways to free yourself. A friend and colleague once shared a saying that really stuck with me: “You never know what’s in someone’s brown bag.” It’s a reminder that you can never truly understand what others are going through. So, when someone makes a mistake, or when you feel wronged, extend grace. Forgive them, let go of the burden, and move on.
Create The Life You Want
If you aspire to be a leader at work, step into that role and own it. If you dream of exploring the world, start traveling—whether it’s a weekend getaway or a day trip to a nearby town you’ve never visited. The key is to start. There’s no better time than now to define what you want and begin laying the groundwork to achieve it.
For me, adventure has always been a driving force, and in 2025, I’m determined to embrace even more of it. I want to take a leap and do something that scares me; something that pushes me outside my comfort zone.
Eight years ago, I did just that. I took a terrifying leap of faith and bought a hotel with no prior experience in hospitality. At the time, it felt impossible, and the uncertainty was overwhelming. But looking back now, I can’t help but marvel at how far we’ve come.
Our team has grown, the challenges have been met, and the accomplishments have exceeded my wildest expectations. I couldn’t be prouder of what we’ve achieved together. That rush of adrenaline, the sense of accomplishment that comes from tackling something you once thought was out of reach—that’s what I’m craving again. And I know that every new challenge, no matter how daunting, is an opportunity for growth and a step closer to the life I envision.
So, what’s your next step? Whatever it is, the time to start is now. As the year winds down and we look ahead to what’s next, I hope these insights provide some inspiration. Let’s enter the new year with intention, clarity, and a commitment to being the very best versions of ourselves.
