For Frederico Azevedo, a garden should never simply be something you look at; it should be something you live in. Through Unlimited Earth Care, the celebrated landscape designer has become known for creating some of the Hamptons’ most transportive outdoor spaces—dreamy flowering meadows, curving floral borders, and layered landscapes show the true essence of each home he touches.

“I like to consider what it’s like to move through and live in these spaces,” Azevedo says. “A garden isn’t just something my clients look at. It’s where they entertain, where their children play, where they pick herbs for cooking, and do yoga.”

That emotional approach is what separates his work. Rather than designing landscapes purely for aesthetics, Azevedo creates environments centered around atmosphere, movement, and feeling. Color plays an especially important role in that process. “Soft pink roses or delicate white blooms can create a calm, romantic space,” he says, “while vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows bring a lot of joy and energy into a space.”

Even green itself becomes layered and intentional in his designs, with mosses, grasses, and evergreens carefully selected for their different tones and textures. The result is a style that feels luxurious while still authentically connected to nature.

Long before sustainability became a major conversation in luxury design, Azevedo embraced native and well-adapted plantings inspired by the environmental movements he grew up around in Brazil. One of his signature approaches is the use of flowering meadows in place of expansive traditional lawns. Filled with native flowers and grasses, the meadows require less irrigation and maintenance while naturally attracting birds, butterflies, and pollinators. “It really is a fantasy,” Azevedo says, “but it’s also an intentional form of garden design that collaborates with nature.” That balance between fantasy and functionality is especially fitting in the Hamptons, where the landscape itself becomes part of the lifestyle. For Azevedo, the East End’s beauty lies in its diversity, from oceanfront properties and bays to farmland, woods, and ponds.

“Every property has different environmental conditions, and the challenge of responding to those specific needs inspires my work,” he says. Interestingly, Azevedo credits part of his artistic inspiration to animated films, which he admires for their handling of color and movement. “Gardens and landscapes are animated colors and textures,” he explains. That cinematic quality can be felt throughout his work. Flowers spill naturally onto pathways, grasses sway in the wind, and curved borders soften architecture with an organic sense of movement. While every detail is meticulously planned, the finished spaces feel effortless and spontaneous.

At its core, Azevedo’s process begins not with plants but with understanding how his clients live—and how he can bring more of that life outdoors. “I don’t create spaces that impose a way of living on someone,” he says. “I want to work with them to draw their life into the outdoors in new ways.”

As luxury increasingly shifts toward wellness, sustainability, and meaningful experiences, Azevedo sees outdoor living becoming even more essential. “Being in nature, spending time amongst the flowers, at home,” Azevedo says, “is the greatest joy and luxury.”
