NYFW has come and gone once again, setting the tone for the European runway shows. In comparison to the European shows, NYFW always tends to be the most controversial week of Fashion Month.
That is why we sat down with Kristi Cook of Spill Sesh to get the tea New York Fashion Week.
Which shows did you attend during New York Fashion Week?
I attended the NYFW Shows Powered by Miami Swim Week show as they showcased their Spring/Summer 2025 collections.
If you can pick, which collection was your favorite?
The show included 12 emerging and established designers from around the globe but Oh Polly was certainly my favorite since I already know and love the brand.
How do you feel this NYFW was different from past ones?
I feel like every year brands are getting more and more creative with activations during fashion week. Even brands not involved in the fashion world are joining in now to take advantage of the buzz and visibility. It goes beyond just showcasing clothes these days.
In the past, NYFW was mainly meant for buyers. Do you feel that its growing popularity on social media is helpful to the designers?
Social media is also at an all-time high, allowing attendees and viewers at home to engage in real-time. It feels like fashion, art, and entertainment are all coming together like never before and it’s making NYFW so much more accessible to everyone.
New York Fashion Week is very different from the shows in Europe. What do you make of Off White and Alaïa showing in New York for the first time?
I think for Off White showcasing in New York aligns with them being this luxury streetwear brand. It all
feels right for them to be there. With Alaïa, I feel their style truly embodies the essence of New York City. Showcasing at Fashion Week not only attracts fresh attention to the brand but also offers a new perspective on their pieces.
What would you like to see more of when NYFW rolls back around in February?
I’d really love to see more interactive experiences at Fashion Week. People are really drawn to the
stories behind collections, so offering behind-the-scenes access or engaging panels could truly
elevate the experience.
